Counting Sand (Posted on 2005-04-07) Difficulty: 2 of 5
Count Sandini calls himself the greatest "Sand Counter" in the world. Show him a bucket filled of sand, and in a few seconds he will tell you how many grains of sand are there!

Can you devise a (fairly quick) test to prove whether he can actually do so, or if he's a fraud?

Show him a bucket, and ask how many grains there are. Then, out of his sight, remove just a little sand (so you can count how many grains you took) and ask him again how many grains there are in the bucket.

If he gives the correct number, you could repeat this experiment a few times to check whether it was just by luck.
