What is the next number in the following sequence? 6, 2, 5, 5, 4, 5, 6, 4 (though sometimes 3), 7, ?

Thanks, Charlie.  That makes sense now.  I had tried searching on that sequence earlier and found myself on a page describing how the sequence was related to early greek and hindu numeric notation, and I was trying to figure out patterns on the 3x3 keypad on a calculator.
