 Crackers (Posted on 2002-12-25)
Can you crack the code used to transform the following numbers and come up with the final number?
2461289=18
11029447=1
6332516=333561
412961044=4141
2234=23
357924242=222
139=9
4344199=?

(hint by levik: the encoding is such that it will only work on some numbers, not all integers)

`The first digit of each code = # digits in the decrypted number`
`The nth digit(Pn, say) of each code = Pnth position of the digit in the code, for n>=2, and:`
`If Qn = Pnth position of the digit in the code, then the decrypted number is Q1Q2....Qt, whenever the decrypted number contains t digits.`
`For example, for the code 2461289, t = 2, Q1 = P4 = 1, Q2 = P6 = 8, and so the  corresponding decrypted number is 18.`
`In a similar manner, we observe that:`
`11029447 --> 1`
`6332516 --> 333561`
`412961044 --> 4141`
`2234 --> 23`
`357924242 --> 222`
`139 --> 9`
`4344199 --> 4444 `
`Consequently, the required final number is 4444.`
