I think Charlie nailed it.

But a snake with 10 letters could be "Deathadder"
I couldn't find any 10 letter words in the formal Latin name of the adder snake.

Another thought is "Blackadder" which is a BBC comedy whose cast includes "Mr. Bean", but I doubt that's the answer being sought.
