If I sent this message to all of my friends and relatives at a particular time of the year, what would i be tryin to say to them?

"Noel," or more properly, "Nöel," comes from the French word for the Christmas season: "Noelle" Exactly why the phrase wishing good fortune during the holiday was reduced to just a variant on the holiday's name, I'm not sure, but in English "Nöel" means "Merry Christmas," and not just "Christmas."
