Hmm...I wish I could say that there was blinding flash of inspiration that led me to this solution, but in reality I just kind of "saw" it.  When I looked at this problem, the hidden message just kind of stood out from the rest.  I know that's not the best explanation but that's how it works for me. 

I just joined this site a few days ago, and I think it's great.  I've posted a couple of solutions so far to the most recent puzzles, and you'll notice that I rarely have a decent explanation for how I find the answer, whether it's words or math or whatever, sometimes I just look and I see it...
