Cross cut (Posted on 2006-03-06) Difficulty: 4 of 5
I have a cross in the form of one square with four identical squares surrounding it

 _|_|_
|_|_|_|
  |_|
Cut it into the fewest number of pieces possible such that, when rearranged the pieces form two smaller crosses of identical size.

 _|_|_     If it doesn't matter on the shape of the cross, a simple
|_|_|_|    T shape can be considered a cross.  This can be
 _ _  _     accomplished with a single cut. into 2 pieces.
