The category is correct.  It is not in crypto because there is no secret message.

You've noticed some coincidences about the cards.  Do you notice anything more prominent and/or interesting?

So, "something like 'multiply by spades, add hearts, subtract clubs, etc.'" is very specific and arbitrary.  Remember, this problem is in "General".
