The object of halves (Posted on 2006-05-03) Difficulty: 5 of 5
This is the hardest riddle I've ever created so far. If you can solve it I'd say you're really good. Here goes...

Half of a common germ,
Half of a yellow food.
Half of a longer month,
Half of a plane of wood.

This thing has two halves too,
One half as heavy as the other.
Tis' an object used to
Part one's life asunder.

What on earth am I talking about?

I'm just brainstorming here... Trying to think of even-lettered examples for each clue (since odd-lettered examples can't legitimately be halved.)

Half of a common germ...  cold?

Half of a yellow food... banana?  corn?

Half of a longer month... July?  August?  December?

Half of a plane of wood... beam?  glider?

But putting these together, I don't get anywhere... cobanjugli?  hehehe.

This thing has two halves too,
One half as heavy as the other.
Tis' an object used to
Part one's life asunder.

This could be a double-bladed axe.  However, this has no basis in the first four clues.  An enjoyable riddle, anyway.
