Composite numbers (Posted on 2003-03-05) Difficulty: 3 of 5
Find 2000 consecutive composite numbers.

(Of course you can't do this by trial and error alone)

For those who do not know what a composite number is, it is any integer greater than 1 that is not prime. (4, 6, 8, 9, ...)

Since you can't possible think of some random 2000 consecutive composite integers, you need to think of some relation or formula.

Here's a sequence of 2000 consecutive composite numbers -
2001! + 2, 2001! + 3, 2001! + 4,.........,2001! + 2001
consists of all composite numbers.

In the sum 2001! + x, we can see that both 2001! and x are definitely divisible by x as long as x < 2001.

Note- this can be used to create a sequence of N number of composite integers.
