Fill in the blanks to find them all.

For example,the puzzle:

becomes

blow h a r d / l i q u o r / c a b i n e t maker

Or in short hand: blow hard liquor cabinet maker

[1]
Sitting _ _ _ _ / _ _ _ _ _ tracks

[2]
water _ _ _ _ _ / _ _ _ _ room

[3]
trap _ _ _ _ / _ _ _ _ _ trap

[4]
pine _ _ _ _ _ / _ _ _ _ _ / _ _ _ fried

[5]

[10]

(Most of the terms used, as far as I know, are universal to the english-speaking population. Some, however, are sure to show my Americanness.)

You are correct, mountain has too many letters.

My first guess for [1] was "Sitting Bull", "Bull Moose" and moose tracks...but I don't think moose tracks is a "compound word" or  closely associated (except maybe to a specialized hunting party or those living in the vicinity of moose).  Not pleased with "moose tracks', I went with mountain forgetting the word length.

For [3], house trap is a specialized term for construction workers that build houses.  It is the point which the house drain leaves the building, designed to hold a quantity of water to prevent gases from the sewer system from entering the building.

Another option for [3] is trap door, "Doormouse", mousetrap.  "Doormouse" is an alias of Daniel Martin, an electronic muscian and DJ of the 90's with a large discography.

Perhaps [3] is trapball, ball speed, speedtrap.  A trapball is an old game of ball played with a trap; ball speed is the speed a ball, such as a baseball, is clocked; and speedtrap is where the bears in their bubblegum machines set up house.   Or perhaps [3] is trap line, line speed, speedtrap.  A trap line is a series or row of traps; line speed is a technical term for the maximum data transmission rate over a communications channel; and speedtrap is still the heat who hide behind the billboards.

Another solution for [8], and perhaps the one in the "official" solution, is summertide, tidewater, water hog, hog wild.
