Using only half of a chess board you may place five queens anywhere. After you place them, I move each queen at most once with standard queen moves. If I make a horizontal five-in-a-row, I win. Can you beat me?

I think you're misunderstanding the question...

"If I make a horizontal five-in-a-row, I win." - This means that if he can move the queens in a way that will result in them being in a horizontal line, he wins. (All of the queens also must be in adjacent squares, as was clarified)

You can use the same riddle-esque solution, but I think it's a rather silly way to get out of an interesting riddle. And I should note that chessboards fold down a horizontal line. ^_~

a1, b2, g3, h4, and the last one wherever you want it.
