Getting Quadratic With Two Digits (Posted on 2007-09-07) Difficulty: 3 of 5
(A) x is a two digit positive integer with no leading zero and d is the product of its digits. Determine all possible values of x such that x2 10x d is a perfect square.

(B) p is a two digit positive integer with no leading zero and c is the product of its digits. Determine all possible values of p such that p2 12p c is a perfect square.

I didn't manage to solve this analytically so I broke down and solved it by writing a simple program on my calculator.

(A) Solutions: x=10 and x=13 yield the squares 0 and 36

(B) Solution: x=18 yields the square 100
