No repeated numbers (Posted on 2008-08-20) Difficulty: 2 of 5
Look at the 8x8 grid below at left. In the rows and columns there are repeated numbers. Erasing 19 of them, we achieve the grid at right, that has no repeated numbers in any row, in any column.

possible solution (spoiler) | Comment 1 of 20

I got this solution with just pen and paper.  It results in 20 removals.  I'm about 99% certain it is the minimum because I can prove you any fewer for all numbers except 5.  getting rid of the extra 5's was tricky and have not figured out yet if this is minimum for 5's.  in my grid x means blank
