Wrap a gram (Posted on 2009-04-01) Difficulty: 3 of 5
The table is composed of five-letter words reading downwards.

Retain the cyclic order of the letters but using the wraparound process
(ie, 1,2,3,4,5 2,3,4,5,1 or 5,1,2,3,4) replace each given word with
an anagram (which is a valid word), and so determine a short message.

I did a lookup of escar on an online scrabble dictionary, and it defined escar as esker. And, another scrabble word website indicates escar is a variant spelling, along with eskar, of esker; and as you indicated, its definition is "a long narrow ridge of gravel deposited by a glacial stream".

I shall correct my earlier post to reflect this.
