The (in)famous Barber (Posted on 2002-05-14) Difficulty: 3 of 5
In a certain small town, there is a barber named Bill. Since Bill is the only barber in the town, he decides that he will shave all the town's residents who do not shave themselves, but (obviously) not the ones who do.

If Bill follows this rule, will he shave himself or not?

I was "taught" this in a math class. He would not be able to shave himself because ha cannot shve people who shave themselves, and if he shaved himself then the barber would be shaving someone who shaves himself which is against the rule. He cannot not shave himself as well. If he did't shave himself then he would HAVE to shave himself, but he would be shaving someone who shaves himself which is against the rule. This contradicts the TAUTOLOGY p or not P so it must be a paradox.
