Year of the Roman (Posted on 2009-08-21) Difficulty: 2 of 5

Select from the English alphabet only those letters, and just once each, which represent Roman numerals. Place them in a special order to represent a year in history that holds significance.

What is that year, and what are at least two reasons for that significance?

I believe I may have initially misunderstood this problem.  Perhaps what is being asked is to take all the roman numeral letters (M,C,D,L,X,V,I) and look at all their permutations and see which of the years made is most significant.  Then we get the following years:
 1444         MCDXLIV
 1446         MCDXLVI
 1464         MCDLXIV
 1466         MCDLXVI
 1644         MDCXLIV
 1646         MDCXLVI
 1664         MDCLXIV
 1666         MDCLXVI

I googled each of these dates and in my humble opinion I could not find any date with anything more significant that the date I previously offered.   Perhaps I missed something
