 Missing Pages (Posted on 2009-11-13)
A chunk of pages is missing from a book. The sum of the missing page numbers is 9808. What are those page numbers?

Submitted by Brian Smith Rating: 3.5000 (2 votes) Solution: (Hide) Pages 291 through 322 are missing. There are multiple solutions in the comments. Ady Tzidon's solution uses the fact that the average of the page numbers must equal an integer plus 1/2. 9808 = 32*306.5 There are 32 missing pages, the first 16 end at 306 and the last 16 start at 307. Then the first missing page is 306-15=291 and the last missing page is 307+15=322.
