Arrange all sixteen white pieces and the black king on a standard 8x8 chessboard such that no piece is in check by another piece.
The arrangement must be possible to reach following rules of standard play (though such play would be ludicrous),
with no pawn having reached the eighth row for promotion.
Does this mean that the King is the only black on the board? Would the position have to be such that "standard play" could have arrived at this situation (15 black captured)? Only a King may be "in check" (but the title. unlike the text, says "non-attacking"). I believe usually the term "piece" does NOT include the pawns, and usually not the kings. Two of the same color cannot be said to be "attacking" (let alone putting "in check") each other. Please clarify.
