Find the rule below and name the next number in the sequence:

1,2,9,1000,???,

I don't know if I am missing something, but I know that everything to the 0 power is 1, because when you take something divided by itself, it makes 1. But when you do the same thing to 0, you get undefined. So why does 0^0=1?
