I did not solve this and your solution makes sense in a way, but I have a problem with it.

I might agree that 53^3 might make someone think of coffee since once you see 148877 you realize it has the same structure as the word, but since it requires a numbering that is not natural (why O=4) why would coffee (which may as well be 123344) make one think about 53^3?

If yours is the same as Ady's solution, I believe the wording of the problem could have been better.
