Aright now guess this riddle, Puzzler!

Solution: (Hide)
The answer is Iron(III)Oxide, better know as rust.

Its effect on iron implements requires no further elaboration; as red ochre it was and is a cosmetic; and as jewellers' rouge it is used in the manufacture of lenses or 'glasses'.
