Drew and Mohammad come back (Posted on 2003-04-30) Difficulty: 1 of 5
If two people are of the same type,then they are either both knights or both liars. If they are of different types,then one is a knight and one is a liar. Now, suppose Drew and Mohammad say the following.

Drew: We are of the same type.
Mohammad: We are of different types.

Now, what are each?

OK,

if DREW were a night then they would both be knights, BUT that can't be because MOHAMMAD said that "we are of different types" if he wes a knight AND if DREW was a knight then, this statement is impossible!.

so..., they both can't be knights, NOR can they both be liars because there statements clash.

therefore:

MOHAMMAD is a knight because his statement MUST be true, because he said "We are of different types", this HAS to be true, because they are not BOTH knights, NOR are they BOTH liars, so his statement MUST be true.

SAYING THAT:

If Mohammad is a knight, DREW HAS to be a liar.

FINAL CONCLUSION:::

    DREW = LIAR!

    MOHAMMAD = KNIGHT!
