Store Survey (Posted on 2012-10-16) Difficulty: 1 of 5
A survey was carried out among 100 ladies leaving a departmental store and, it was observed that 77 had black shoes, 83 had a white bag, 62 carried an umbrella and 95 wore a ring.

What is the minimum number of ladies who must have had all the four items?

Solution Another way to think about it (spoiler) Comment 2 of 2 |
23 did not have black shoes
17 did not have a white bag
38 had no umbrella
5 had no ring
If you want to minimize the number with all four, make as many ladies as possible missing one item:
100 - 23 - 17 - 38 - 5 = 17
