Though this be madness, yet there is method in it... (Posted on 2012-09-20) Difficulty: 2 of 5
From a posting to the Math Fun mailing list by R. W. Gosper, Dec 03 2009:

(Begin)
Gosper: I just reordered checks.
Bank Lady: Where would you like the numbering to start?
Gosper: What was my last one?
Bank Lady: 1093
Gosper: Well then obviously 3511 .
Bank Lady: [Opens mouth. Decides not to ask. Resumes typing.]
(End)

My question : How many checks can you order for Mr. Gosper's checkbook, using his numbering system?

Some Thoughts att: JER | Comment 5 of 6 |

One should not apply logical reasonong to a joke,  a pun or a mess of silly facts. Any answer might qualify as correct
in response to a cock-and-bull nonsense appearing
in FUN MATH.

However, once you grasp that the objective of my publication is to expose readers/solvers to new esoteric numbers, features and conjectures,   then one has to agree that ONLY  CHRIS picked up the glove the way it was intended.

I believe that I've made  my point, but if you wish I will convey my thoughts in a private communication.
