Identify what these formulas represent:

C = 2*π*3959*sin(r/3959)

C = 2*π*6371*sin(r/6371)

6371 = Earth Radius in km.

3959 = Earth Radius in miles.

I still don't get the rest of it unfortunately. If it was just C = 7918 or 12742 pi, then it would be the circumference of the Earth.
