Upon Reflection (Posted on 2013-11-22) Difficulty: 3 of 5
The Alphametics:
WED + TAB + PIN = X j k Y
and
DEW + BAT + NIP = Y k j X
..... when considered concurrently have 864 solutions.

In the totals X=1 and Y=2 or X=2 and Y=1, and j and k are distinct integers represented in the set of variables.

Why can X and Y never equate to W, T, P, D, B or N? The digits 0-9 are all available but there are no leading zeroes.

Some Thoughts re: Hmmph. | Comment 9 of 13 |

Brian

I have decided to reply to your empty page and the "official solution" separately regarding 2 aspects: Style and Essence.

Feel free to respond (=answer, not "berate")
either privately or on the board.
If you prefer not to, still ok with me.
Anyway, I will follow suit.
You may recall that my 1st letter, (offering unsolicited help, extended to you and accepted on several previous occasions) sent by registered Email was neither acknowledged nor answered.   Instead you have dismissed it on the board, dragging me into
public discussion.
Now, please read my remarks bona fide and specify your preference  -which way my future comments should reach you?.
Thank you.
