My parenthetical note basically explains how to make pareallel creases:  make perpendicular ones and then fold perpendicular to these.

My method works equally well for squares and it doesn't matter which side is longer.

I think K S changed the problem to specify the rectangle was not a square when I mentioned the similarity to the very first puzzle I ever submitted here: http://perplexus.info/show.php?pid=2336
