A permuted multiplication (Posted on 2014-03-11) Difficulty: 4 of 5
In the multiplication given below, all the digits, except one, were consistently replaced by another digit:

    617
*   702
_______
   1639
  3733
 2807
__________
 265699

Find the substitution code and restore the original multiplication.

Absolutely true.

While the problem was on the board I have mentioned that there are numerous applets on the web solving standard alphametics (plain substitution) , so one should submit problems not solvable by plainly entering data into an online-solver.

Apparently not changing one specific digit did not overcome this issue. I have other ideas in stock, part of them already implemented (puzzles in the queue).

Anyway,  I appreciate your and Jer's remarks and fully agreee with them.
