What are the next few terms in this sequence?

I have been thinking outside the box on this one, to no avail. I tried substitutions, I tried bases other than ten, I compared the terms to Roman numerals, and came up with nought. There is no denying the geometric progression of the 2nd, 4th, and 8th terms, or the arithmetic progression of the 3rd, 5th, and 7th, but so far I haven't been able to make the leap to understanding, even with the hints. Guess I'll keep plugging at it.
