What Can I Be? (Posted on 2003-06-22) Difficulty: 2 of 5
My timpani plays a rhythmic song,
With hammer on anvil I play along.
Down my canal no ship sets course,
And I have a stirrup that fits no horse.

What am I?

I got ear, no sweat- but what about a woman in labor?
Timpani could be her child's heartbeat.  The hammer and anvil could be the mother's heartbeat, or contractions or mechanized medical devices attached to the mother.  There are no ships in a birth canal (although you can find crazy pictures on the internet) and the woman's feet would be in stirrups.

I love this site!
