Mr Mar & Mrs Bles (Posted on 2015-02-04) Difficulty: 2 of 5
Mr Mar & Mrs Bles owed jointly 40 MarBles: 13 black, 7 red and 20 yellow.

They decided to divide it between them so that each gets 20 marbles.

In how many distinct ways is such division possible?

Mr. Mar can have any from 0 through 13 black marbles and any from 0 to 7 red marbles; the rest are yellow.  If both black and red are zero, there are enough yellow to fill the rest. If both black and red are at their maximum, he will not have exceeded his quota.

There are 14 * 8 possibilities: 112.
