New to the Site

Hello. My name is Kasey. I enjoy riddles and logic problems. I sometimes enjoy math problems, but they become very boring. My imagination does not work in math, as in I cannot visualize with numbers. I think I am a bit of a contradiction... My SAT: Verbal: 520 Math: 760 Yet, I majored in English in undergraduate school. Often look at it as a foolish mistake, but I am still alive and about to enter law school, so I guess it'll work out in the end.

Re: New to the Site

Welcome to Perplexus! There are plenty of riddles and logic problems here. If you look around, you might even find interesting math puzzles too; some can be quite clever.

welcome marie. Like what Tristan said, if you look around the site, you'll find some interesting (and not so interesting) math problems. Have fun, and don't forget to post some of your own!

Re: New to the Site

Hi all, new guy here, Shane's my name. I manager a cinema compplex in Australia. I have a lovely wife, 3 great kids and a cranky dog. I like any puzzles that are a bit tricky. Most the time I get them wrong, but I like to try....Shane

Shane,
Good to have some more Aussies around here! We need all the representation that we can get! Do you mind if I ask where your cinema complex is in Australia? I'm in Melbourne, myself...
Cheers,
Dave

Re: New to the Site

Yes, SK. I did notice that you had posted this to Avitarity... so thanks. But this is just temporary 'til I can find a good 5-ball cascade one. That's the trick that I'm perfecting at the moment.

Re: New to the Site

If you could do a 5-ball cascade one that'd be great. The animation would have to slow down a little, otherwise you'd lose the balls in the flurry of the pattern. But at the moment I'm just waiting for:
http://www.jugglingworld.biz/images/animated_gifs/juggler_anim_stickman.gif to get accepted onto avitarity. Got any idea what kind of wait I can expect for it? Last time I submitted something there is was up in a few days, but that was a while ago...

Re: New to the Site

It can take a while... and mileage varies. Hopefully, sooner rather than later. Well, I won't bother making it, if you'd prefer that stick guy anyway, would you prefer a 5-cascade looking more like this one? And Juggler's gonna be jealous.

Re: New to the Site

Yeah... don't worry about it for the moment. I'll see what it looks like when it gets accepted to avitarity, then if it's crap, I'm commission you to do a better one!

Re: New to the Site

Msg to Popstar Dave, Give me my balls back or i'll take them home.
Good luck with the 5-ball cascade, it took me a while, on the Juggling difficulty scale of 1-infinity, i rate as follows
3-ball cascade = 1
4-ball cascade (2 balls/hand)= 10
5-ball cascade = 100

i'm trying to learn 7 at the moment, but it's too darn quick and my hands are too small, i've managed a flash but that's about it so far, 6 was relatively easy.

Msg to SK, please don't let my avatar be outdone by PD's, i've a great idea for one, 4-Ball mills mess, can you please, please, please have a look to see if it's possible, or at least give me a breakdown on how to make it myself (i have no programming experience) here is a link to show you what it looks like.

http://www.mt.luth.se/~petert/personal/4-mills_mess.html

thanks in advance SK, and all the best with the 5-ball stuff, PS. tricks with 5 are a bitch.

Re: New to the Site

4-ball mills, now that is a quality pattern... I can get about 5 or 6 throws of it, then it just falls apart. As for the numbers juggling... 5 has taken me about a year or so to get right (by right, I meant that I can reasonably constantly hold the pattern for at least 100 throws). As for six... I can flash it, and consistantly juggle three in my right hand, but it's my left hand that's slowing me down. I don't know if I'll go on to try seven. Maybe I'll just stick to 3,4 and 5-ball tricks. Give me ten years or so and I'll come back and show you my 5-ball, reverse Rubinstein's Revenge!

As for the avatar... I'll ditch this one for the time being... you've got the login, so it's yours. and I'll wait for my 5-ball one to come through on Avatarity...

Re: New to the Site

Thanks PD.

5-ball reverse rubenstein revenge!!!!! that's a toughie, if you can manage this i'll doff my cap to you, i've never seen it done and it should look amazing

Good Luck, keep on juggling, and watch out for the extra gravity, i find this is a big problem when trying something new

Oh and don't wash your hands... ...I do, and find that i can't do a thing witht them.

Carlos,

Why not co-opt Mr. Peanut? You can find it here: http://www.planters.com

However, if you have more particular needs, then, by all means, post here a detailed description of what you're looking for... Or better yet, post in HERE in this Avatar(ity) thread.

Re: New to the Site

How long would it take to learn how to program and avatar (or something like an avatar)?

Re: New to the Site

That depends on your level of interest ;-).

Try http://www.webreference.com/dev/gifanim as one (of many) beginnings to learn how to create animated GIFs (properly pronounced JIFs).

Re: New to the Site

Since SK made the juggler Avatar for me i have become interested in doing the same thing, I downloaded a program Called "Easy GIF Animator" from Karlis Blumentals, this is basically a very simple program that allows you to link frames together, you just need to be able to draw in the first place

Re: New to the Site

As this seems to be the fasion:

Hi! I'm kelsey and I'm new to the site! (glad I got that part over with)

I found this place because i got bored one day and got the sudden, overwhelming urge to find and do a logic puzzle. Suddenly I've found a site full of puzzles and am now somehow signed up. I like logic puzzles, and probably other kinds as well, but haven't figured out if i do yet.

Hope to have fun here... That or take over somehow and rule the universe!

Right.
