A flat ball? (Posted on 2004-04-08) Difficulty: 2 of 5
Soccer balls are usually covered with a design based on regular pentagons and hexagons.

How many pentagons/hexagons MUST there be, and why?

This is true, but not what I was getting at. My point was that the fact that no Johnson solid is composed of pentagons and hexagons doesn't rule out a nonconvex shape made of pentagons and hexagons.

There could even be a surface with holes in it.

This would make an even worse soccer ball.
