A prominent politician recently proposed, as part of our SDI, to place a defensive satellite in geosynchronous orbit directly above Washington, D.C.
What if anything is wrong with his suggestion?
even in a geosynchronous orbit, i don't believe that a satellite can stay fixed directly above a particular spot on earth unless that spot lies on the equator.
i'm not at all sure of this, just guessing...
