I can sizzle like bacon, I am made with an egg,
I have plenty of backbone, but lack a good leg,
I peel layers like onions, but still remain whole,
I can be long, like a flagpole, yet fit in a hole,

What am I?

I'm guessing it's a snake...that's basically the only thing I can think of that matches the riddle....cuz, a snake sizzles, or hisses, and it does come from an egg...it has a lot of backbone, but, no legs...he sheds a layer of skin, but is still whole....and it's long, and slender enough to go in a hole.
