In a square of side 4, I pack 4 circles of unit radius.

What's the largest circle I can fit into the center (such that it doesn't overlap the other circles)?

In this case, (sqrt2)-1 = the diameter of the small circle. The radius would be half that. We should write r=((sqrt2)-1)/2

And I believe SilverKnight meant ... In a square of side 2, I pack 4 circles of unit radius.   Hugs. CeeAnne
