I actually thought that this was unprovable. I've heard all sorts of times about people who are trying to find the pattern to pi, and while I understand that a patterned number can be irrational, it seemed to me more likely that someone had reason to believe that some hidden rationality had been found... I guess I just don't keep up with state of the art math gossip!
