What Am I ?

I read this riddle quite a few months ago, early in 2004. I memorized it because I simply loved the wording. At school, my friends and I often exchange riddles, trying to stump the others. Whenever I was at a loss for a good riddle, I would tell this one. No one could EVER solve it without giving up me having me tell about a million hints. I have dubbed it "The Hardest Riddle I Know."
