Perhaps I am mistaken, but I thought that when using a compass, one assumes it collapses when picked up and cannot be "set" at one length and then moved to another point. This ability, along with a straight edge, would be enough to trisect an angle, since this would be about the same as being able to place marks on a straight edge, yes?
