Through the Looking Glass (Posted on 2004-01-29) Difficulty: 4 of 5
When one looks into a mirror, one see an image of himself....

When raising one's right hand, the image raises its left. When raising one's left, the image raises its right.

So, why is it that the mirror reverses left and right, but not top and bottom? Why does a mirror appear to invert the left-right directions, but not up-down?

I HAVE ANOTHER SOLUTION(ALMOST THE SAME).IF WE STAND IN FRNT OF THE PLANE MIRR.,LIGHT RAYS FROM US WILL HIT THE MIRR. AND COME BACK TO OUR EYES.NOW,THE VIRTUAL IMAGE IS FORMED BY OUR BRAIN WHICH GETS THE THE REFL. RAYS WHICH ARE OF OUR FRONT SURFACE,HENCE,IT FORMS AN IMAGE OF OUR FRONT BODY BUT SINCE THE IMAGE IS IN FRONTOF US,IT HAS TO BE LATERALLY INVERTED(CANT EXPLAIN THIS EASILY IN WORDS,BUT I HOPE U GOT A HINT OF MY SOLUTION)
