How do you explain the following addition problems?

The numbers are represented in base -9 (minus nine). math.com has an online number base converter that will do negative bases and I used it to find that, in decimal, the first sum is 47816 + 24125 = 71941 and the second sum is -9743 + 48238 = 38495.
