If a stone is dropped from a balloon on a still day, does the stone fall directly below the balloon, or to the west or east of it?

west... the earth rotates the balloon wont...the stone wont...but the ground below it will...so west....*im not sure witch way the earth rotates...to if it rotates east...then it lands east...kk?*
