A jar filled partially with water has an object floating in it. The jar is open. Now, if the jar is closed and a vacuum pump is used to pump the air out, what will happen to the floating object? will it rise up more or sink or ...? and why?

Here are some links regarding the freezing of boiling ice:

More links can be found by Googling "Vacuum freezing".
It is a technique used to freeze books in the process of saving them from a water catastrophy. The vacuum is used to freeze the water in the pages.
