It's black when it's not in use, it's red when it's in use, and it's grey when you're done using it. What can this be??

Hi Ravi,
Your guesses have been tip of a matchstick and wick of an candle. They are not always black. I have seen many matchboxes with matchsticks having tips with different colour. so is the case with candle wick also.
