A circle of unit radius is completely covered by three identical squares. What is the smallest size of the squares?
- Draw a circle of 1 unit radius
- Draw an equilateral triangle to fit said circle and name points A B C
- Draw 3 squares the same dimension and allowing one side to touch AB,BC and CA respectively
- "Slide" the squares in their original aspect so that side AB, side BC and side CA touch the centre of the circle.
The corresponding length of each square will 1.618 units in length.
