Möbius chess (Posted on 2005-10-27) Difficulty: 1 of 5

This chess board is on a Mobius strip. The length is infinite (and wraps) but the width is only four squares. There are no pieces on the hidden sides, which also mean the board is not transparent. Some of the pieces are hard to read: the White Queen is on top, the White King is on the left, and the Black King and Queen are on the right. The Black Pawn walks downwards and pawns can't queen.

White to move and win.

At that point, after the king has taken the white knight, the white rook in the top segment would slide to the left, then on the underside of the left segment, then up and to the right on the right segment to capture the black queen, completing a checkmate, as the rook capturing the queen would be guarded by his own queen.
