    Perhaps not a scar, since a scar disappears when the person dies. Perhaps it is a shared secret. When it starts, it never goes away, as people may talk about some other people long after they are dead - the "scandals" preserved into books or information on the internet even. The "copper bullet to ricochet" part could refer to the fact that it harms the person when he/she says it. It's not supposed to be said in public, as the contents are supposed to be secret, but it always is.
