"I am a food upon your plate,
When you partake of me in dawning light.
Yet I become a drink inside your glass,
After dinner time at night."

Note: One word fits both clues

Solution Queen for a day | Comment 7 of 23 |

When I was in York, England, we ate bangers and "mash" for breakfast.  (We call them "beans" in New York).

In the evening, I drank Guinness Stout.  That' beer for those of you who have never been Irish (Happy St. Patrick's Day to you too, Vernon).  Before it is fully fermented, beer may be referred to as "mash".  And yes, some people drink mash in the evening.

So, my answer is "mash".
