What row of numbers comes next? (This is a tough one!)

There would actually never be a 4 in that sequence, because then the number represented (the 1 in "two ones") would need to repeat. For example, you might say "one one, one one" as the third step, but it would be more correct to say "two ones"

In other words, for a proper sequence, every number must be different than the number two away, so you would never have a run of 4 numbers, and thus, never a 4.

I personally think this is one of those "hand it down" problems, where if you hadn't heard of it before you wouldn't have known.
